Annual Domestic Violence Conference at Kean University Lauded by Community

Kean University continued its dedication to community involvement and collaboration on April 20th, hosting the 2nd Annual Union County C.A.R.E.S. Domestic Violence Symposium, bringing together Union County’s leading government and non-profit organizations to address the community’s continued response to domestic violence.

Kean's Dr. Bellitto: Why Francis favors reality over ideas

You don’t normally see the names Pope Francis and Robin Williams in the same sentence, but here goes.

Early in his career, the brilliant comedian and actor Robin Williams scored big with a performance called Reality—What a Concept. This wonderful play on words came to mind when I heard a few lines from one of Pope Francis’ talks during his visit to the Philippines earlier this year. They gained little attention, but are critical to understanding how he wants to enliven the church and the world. “Reality,” he told a large group of young people, “is superior to ideas.”

Center to Host Watch Party for Governor Christie's Budget Address

Join the Kean University Center for History, Politics, & Policy for a live viewing of Governor Christie's annual Budget Address in the Nancy Thompson Library, Room L-116. Watch the whole speech or just pop in for a free cup of coffee and snacks as Governor Christie lays out his budget plan for the next year. Following the speech, the Senate and Assembly will review the governor's plan and present their own budgets through the legislative process. The state's budget must be passed by July 1st.

New Genealogy Seminar Series Set to Help You Find Your Roots – Meets this Monday at 3:15PM

Every family has a unique story. Do you know yours?

Shows like "Who Do You Think You Are" and "Finding Your Roots" have recently popularized genealogy. This informal seminar can get you started on thinking about your family tree, finding evidence, and making US and World History a bit more personal.

“Special Topics in History: You 101” will host its inaugural meeting this Monday, February 9 at 3:15pm in room L-116 on the first floor of the Nancy Thompson Library.

Kean Honors History Students Set to Present at Gettysburg

Nine Kean University students have been selected to present their work on the University’s Nancy Thompson World War II Collection at the annual Northeast Regional Honors Conference in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, from April 9-12.

The students taking part are Christina Leedy, Stephanie Valente, Gabby Kissoon, Laura Hurley, Jonathan Cutler, Kevin Fette, Ksenia Starikov, Brie Gordon, and David Lewis. A team of faculty-scholars chose the students after a competitive process.

World War II Documents Now on Exhibit in Nancy Thompson Library

For the first time in nearly 70 years, letters written during World War II are on public exhibit. They can be seen in three exhibit cases on the ground floor of the Nancy Thompson Library.

These documents represent the efforts of the men and women who sent them from training camps and battlefields throughout the world, as well as the hundreds of students and teachers on the home-front for whom the war was the defining moment of their generation.
