Kean University’s Wilkins Theater was the center of New Jersey’s political universe on October 11 as the two major candidates for Lieutenant Governor, incumbent Kim Guadagno and challenger Milly Silva, squared off in their only debate of the Campaign ’13 season.
The debate featured several sharp exchanges about the last four years. Among the questions were four posed by Kean University students, who joined the debate via pre-recorded video segments. Kean’s partner in the debate, News 12 New Jersey, broadcast the event on television and streamed it on the News 12 website.
Moderator Luke Margolis referred to Kean University’s poll, NJ Speaks, in two of his questions.
The debate was co-sponsored by the Kean Center for History, Politics, and Policy and by News 12 New Jersey. Shane Derris, assistant director of the Center, served as a liaison between the campaigns and the University, and was responsible for ironing out logistics in the weeks leading to the event.
